What are oxford shoes?

Men's oxford shoes are a classic and timeless style of dress shoes that are characterized by their closed-lacing system. The eyelets are stitched under the vamp, resulting in a sleek and clean appearance. They are considered one of the most formal and versatile types of men's footwear, making them a must-have in any well-dressed man’s wardrobe.

What is the difference between oxford and derby shoes?

The lacing system is the key distinguishing factor between oxfords and derby shoes. Oxfords have a closed lacing system, which means that the eyelet tabs where the shoelaces are threaded are stitched under the vamp (front part of the shoe). In contrast, derby shoes have an open lacing system, with the eyelet tabs stitched on top of the vamp. This results in a more visible and exposed lacing area.

Can men's oxfords be resoled?

Yes, men's oxford shoes can generally be resoled. Resoling is a process where the worn-out sole of a shoe is replaced with a new one, extending the lifespan of the footwear. The ability to resole oxfords depends on the construction of the specific shoe and the condition of the upper leather. At Allen Edmonds, we offer our own refurbishing service, known as Recrafting, that restores your shoes and brings them back to life.
